Marrakech Part One // Moroccan Adventure

"A visit to Marrakech was a great shock to me. This city taught me colour"
- Yves Saint Laurent

Morocco has been top of my wander lust list for as long as I can remember. Something about the vibrant colours, bustling atmosphere and exotic food always appealed to me.

At the start of July, Emma and I boarded a flight heading to the Moroccan capital, Marrakech. We had been planning our trip away for months, so eagerly stepped off the plane into the blazing heat ready for an adventure.

After exchanging our money at the airport (Moroccan Dirham is a closed currency, hence why we hadn't done this before!), we boarded a bus to the centre in hope of finding our hostel.

After checking in, we dumped our bags and headed out to explore. But first, food!

Refuelled and ready for some sight seeing, we headed to the Musee de Marrakech, and marvelled at all the wonderful artwork and architecture on show.

We got lost in the souks, something which I am told is a must if you are in Marrakech! Once we found our way out again, we crossed the Jeema-el-Fna square to take a closer look at the Koutoubia Mosque. The Mosque's Minaret towers over the city, serving as a great compass for travellers.

We finished our day with dinner in the main square, overlooking the bustling street market.

The most wonderful thing about Morocco is how it permeates all the senses. The sights, smells and sounds all work together to create a hectic, fun and buzzing atmosphere.

For the next Moroccan instalment, a day trip to the waterfalls!
