Moroccan Feasting

One of the best things about being home for the holidays is catching up with your loved ones. Family and friends are two of the major contributors to my happiness, and spending quality time with them is fundamentally important to me.

So I was more than delighted when one of my closest friends Bex invited the girls over for a dinner party. Recently returned from Marrakesh, Bex had promised us a Moroccan themed night of fun, food and fantastic company (if we say so ourselves). Armed with a bottle, or two, Molly and I headed over to Bex's rural abode.

Greeted by our glowing hostess and a house filled with the delicious aroma of North African cuisine, we poured our first glass and got chatting.

After nattering away, Bex promptly shuffled us towards the table, which she had lovingly laid with rose petals and all. Who needs a romantic significant other when you have such a wonderfully romantic friends?

For starters, our hostess served up three out of the seven Arabic salads she had enjoyed while on her travels. Number 1 was an aubergine, chickpea and red onion salad with a honey and orange juice dressing. Number 2 was sliced orange and cheese served on a bed of leaves. Number 3 was a dish comprised of carrots glazed with red wine vinegar, mint and coriander.

After a few more glasses of wine, the main was served. A tagine dish of lemon preserve chicken with olives and tomatoes, served with potatoes and green beans. The chicken was divine, almost melting in your mouth and the spices seemed to transport us all to Morocco. We listened intently to Bex's stories about Morocco, nibbling away at the tagine and sipping away at our wine.

The cherry on the top was the pudding of fresh fruit sprinkled with cinnamon, followed by a traditional moroccan mint tea. Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good loose leaf tea, with moroccan mint topping my list.

Bex served hers in authentic shot style glasses.

We carried on the night with drunken board games and gossip.

There really is nothing better than evening surrounded by good company and enjoying good food!
